Q: Why is the XPort Direct a "total module" solution or "turnkey module"?

A: The XPort Direct contains all the hardware and software necessary to connect the
attached host device to a network. This includes:
      A dedicated Network Processor SoC (System on Chip)
      RJ45 Jack and Magnetics
      Program storage Flash (128KB) and Program Execution SRAM (256KB) memory
      Ethernet MAC and 10/100 PHY
      An operating system
      Networking protocol software
      Application software

Q: Why is it called an "embedded device gateway"?

A: The XPort Direct is an embedded module that provides a "gateway' between the
attached device and an Ethernet network or the internet.

Q: Is the XPort Direct a Networking Coprocessor Module?

A: Yes, it can also be considered a co-processor Module. It offloads the task of
networking from the device's host processor, to its own networking optimized DSTni®
processor.

Q: Is additional memory capacity available?

A: Additional memory capacity is not available

HARDWARE CAPABILITIES & INTERFACES

Q: Is the product pin-compatible with the XPort?

A: No, the product is not pin-compatible with the XPort.

Q: What is the maximum data rate for the XPort Direct?

A: The maximum data rate is 230Kbps.
Q: Does the product support RS232 and RS485 serial interfaces?

A: Yes, either RS232 or RS485 serial can be supported.

Q: How many serial ports are available on the WiPort NR?

A: One serial port is available.

Q: Is any additional interface, other than serial, such as I2C, supported?

A: No, the product does not currently support any other interface. Please contact your

SOFTWARE CAPABILITIES AND CONFIGURABILITY

Q: Does the XPort Direct support a device web server?

A: No, the XPort Direct does not support web services. The best selling XPort product is
the right product for an OEM who needs an embedded web server module

Q: Can the XPort Direct be configured using a web browser?

A: No, the XPort Direct, unlike the XPort, cannot be configured using a web browser.

Q: What do you mean by the statement that the XPort Direct allows network parameters
to be configured?

A: The XPort Direct supports the same degree of configuration of key network
parameters as the XPort. This degree of configurability ensures that the networked
device will interoperate, without difficulty, with virtually any Ethernet network or over the
internet.

Q: What are some examples of configurable network parameters?

A: The complete list is available in the XPort Direct User Guide. A partial listing includes
the following parameters:
           o Multiple IP Addressing mechanisms such as DHCP, BootIP and AutoIP,
