Mathematical and Computational Sciences Division
Gaithersburg, MD
The Information Technology Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) anticipates filling one or more positions within its
Mathematical and Computational Sciences Division (MCSD) during the coming
year associated with a new research initiative on the mathematical foundations
of measurement science for information systems. Developing such fundamental
understanding of our cyber infrastructure will provide a basis for the measurement
of critical properties such as performance, reliability, and security.
Mathematically oriented candidates with proven expertise in one or more of
the following areas are especially sought: discrete structures, discrete dynamics,
discrete optimization, stochastic control theory, computational graph theory,
network science, risk analysis, information science, and computation theory.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent research experience) in mathematics,
computer science, or a related field. Appointments at both the junior and senior
levels will be considered, with salary ranges from $80,000 to $140,000 per year
depending upon qualifications and experience. US citizenship is required.
NIST is a Federal science and engineering research laboratory located in
suburban Washington, DC. MCSD consists of some 38 full-time professional
staff, many at the Ph.D. level, along with a number of postdocs, faculty and guest
researchers. MCSD staff members engage in collaborative research with scientists
from all of the NIST Laboratories, providing expertise in applied mathematics,
mathematical modeling, and computational science and engineering.
Applicants should submit a vita, including a statement of research goals and
the names of three references, to Dr. Ronald Boisvert at boisvert@nist.gov. For
further information refer to the following. NIST: http://www.nist.gov/. MCSD:
