ENTERTAINMENT/ PERFORMANCE APPLICATION 2008
The 30th annual Adams Morgan Day street festival will take place on Sunday,
September 14, 2008, on 18th Street between Columbia Rd, NW, and Florida Ave., NW from noon
to 7 pm.
The AdamsMorgan MainStreet Group, a local non-profit, is the Organizer of the Festival.
As a 501(c)3, AdamsMorgan MainStreet brings residents, nonprofits, and businesses together to
enhance Adams Morgan's business area and to promote its identity as a unique, ethnic and
eclectic retail, entertainment, and restaurant locale.
PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Florida Stage: (18th St. & Florida/Vernon): This stage has traditionally hosted jazz artists,
Central & South American, Latin, and world music.
Columbia Stage: (18th St. & Columbia Rd.): This stage has traditionally hosted American,
blues, R&B, folk, soul, and rock bands.
Cultural Stage: (Euclid St. at Unity Park/Columbia Rd): This stage hosts a combination of
music, dance, spoken word, and/or theater groups that exemplify the cultural diversity exemplified
in the history of Adams Morgan. Coordinated by Celestino Zapata.
Dance Plaza: (18th St. & Marie Reed school (basketball court): A smash hit introduced in
2005, this interactive workshop and performance area showcases live music, lessons, audience
participation and demonstrations. Folkloric, African, national styles, traditional and social dance
groups are sought. We are seeking styles such as: rumba, hand dancing, break-dancing and/or
national folkloric dance. Coordinated by Sharlene Kavetski.
Kid's Fair: 18th St. & Wyoming at Marie Reed School Field: Hands on exhibits, childrens'
performers, family-friendly games and activities. Coordinated by Samantha Cribari.
Although we do not provide compensation for artists, groups are welcome to find their
own sponsor, and may promote albums, upcoming performances, etc. Soliciting donations during
or after your festival performance is also permitted. AdamsMorgan MainStreet Group asks that
each fully completed application (review materials included) be received as soon as possible at
the PO Box 21564, but must be postmarked no later than by Friday, July 18, 2008.
But, we encourage you to send in your application as soon as possible, as we accept
and review them on a rolling basis. We are seeking diverse groups of quality that represent the full
range of international cultures. AdamsMorgan MainStreet Group reserves the right to reject an
application for any reason.
We will notify via rolling acceptances from July 1 through August 13. If your
application is approved, we will provide you with additional instructions concerning logistics for the
day of the festival. We look forward to your participation in Adams Morgan Day 2008.
