Directions for filling-out the Certificate of Financial Responsibility:
All students are required to certify that they have enough funding in U.S. currency to meet their educational
expenses for the term(s) they plan to study at the University of Idaho.
"Applicant Information" Section
· Fill-in your name, read the paragraph and sign and date.
"Sources of Funds" Section
· Determine the amount of funding you will need to show and the amount that will be covered for you
by the UI Study Abroad Office.
UI Tuition and Fees are covered for all exchange students by the UI Study Abroad Office. (All
students will be responsible to pay any "Special Course Fees". If a course has "Special Course Fees" the fees are
listed within the course information in the Class Schedule.)
Additionally, room and board will be covered by the UI Study Abroad Office for students from
SANN-Research Institute, PUCE-Pontifícia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, KEMU-Kenya
Methodist University, AUI-Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, or ISEP-International Student
Exchange Program.
Using the amounts listed on the form, fill-in the total amount that will be covered by the UI Study
Abroad Office, on the "UI Department" line.
Subtract that amount from the total estimated expenses for the term(s) you plan to study at UI.
This is the amount of funding you will need to show. You can show this through self-support,
support from parents or individual sponsors, support from your government or other sponsoring
agency, or other funding sources you may have.
Fill-in the funding amounts you have from sources other than UI Study Abroad. Be sure to attach
the required documentation that is listed under each type of funding source.
"Parent or Guarantor's Signature" Section
· Ask your parents or individual sponsors to fill-out this section.
"Dependents" Section
· Only fill-out this section if you plan to bring a spouse or children with you.
Certificate of Financial Responsibility
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations require that every international student verify the availability of funds
to pay for educational and living expenses before an I-20 or DS-2019 form to obtain a visa to enter the U.S. can be issued.
Complete and return this form to the International Programs Office (IPO) regardless of your source(s) of funding.
