News from the Departments
Biology
Dr. Steve Murray has been nominated to the Newly created National Marine Protected Areas
Federal Advisory Committee. Dr. Murray is one of two Californians awaiting confirmation of
their appointments to the 30-member committee. The committee reports to the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration, and provides advice and recommendations to the secretaries of
commerce and the interior on marine protected areas.
President Gordon announced that Dr. Steve Murray has been selected as the 2002/2003 CSUF
Outstanding Professor. Dr. Murray is the 39th outstanding professor and the 15th from the
College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics to be selected for this honor.
Math
Dr. David Pagni is one of the winners of the California State University Wang Family Excellence
Awards. The Wang Awards were established by Trustee Stanley T. Wang to recognize
outstanding achievements of faculty members and administrators.
Jan Sheridan has been selected for the 2003 College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Staff
Excellence Award. She serves as a constant source of support and information for the Math
Department. Congratulations Jan!
The department will hold a reception for graduates, their friends and families in MH 187
immediately following the CNSM Commencement.
