                                    Campus Vision Statements

Set out below are vision-statements for each of Deakin's Campuses. These are aspirational
statements, designed to guide further development and planning, rather than statements of the
current position. They should give some idea about what we hope to have achieved in the next five
or so years.

Geelong Waterfront Campus

The Geelong Waterfront Campus will integrate educational, community and commercial activities
in a vibrant precinct on Corio Bay forming part of the City of Greater Geelong's Western Wedge.
Many of the University's professional courses, such as nursing, occupational therapy and
architecture, will be taught at this campus. As well as housing the University's Chancellery, the
campus will incorporate the Alfred Deakin Institute which will be a focus for innovative teaching
and research collaboration in Law and niche areas of the Arts Faculty's activities. The teaching
and associated research activities will attract regional, metropolitan, national and international
students.

Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds

The Geelong campus at Waurn Ponds will have a strong focus on research and development and
on industry partnerships, particularly in relation to biological and health sciences, technology and
manufacturing. The Deakin University Science and Technology Park, which will include the Geelong
Technology Precinct, will be located at, and be a focal point for, this campus. On-campus
undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and higher degree by research activities will continue to
be conducted here. The campus will house the Centre for Knowledge Technologies and Online
Learning which will focus research in this area, housing the first CRC to be led by the University,
and providing a hub for Deakin's extensive national and international online and distance education
programs. The campus will house an enhanced Institute for Koori Education and student
accommodation.
Melbourne Campus at Burwood

The Melbourne Campus at Burwood will offer the widest range of Deakin's undergraduate
programs, attracting regional, metropolitan, national and international students. The campus,
which will be developed on both sides of Gardiner's Creek, will be the home of Deakin
International, DUELI, learning partners such as MIBT, and commercial activities that are consistent
with Deakin's strategic plans. The campus will have extensive student accommodation and
outstanding research and teaching facilities including the Centre for Innovative Teaching and
Learning which will house the Education Faculty and provide state-ofthe-art general purpose
teaching facilities.

Warrnambool Campus

The Warrnambool Campus will have a strong focus on regional partnerships and on responding to
the higher education needs of South Western Victoria and the border region of South Australia. With
special research strengths in environmental and aquatic sciences and in rural health, the campus
will also have strong community partnerships in business, the environment, health, arts and
education. The general and professional undergraduate teaching programs taught at this campus
will be tailored to on-going demand from within the region; niche undergraduate and postgraduate
programs associated with the campus's research strengths will attract students not only from within
the region, but also metropolitan, national and international students. The campus will be a magnet
for study abroad students.
