Casey Trees' Community Tree Planting Program
Casey Trees' Community Tree Planting Program (CTP) helps groups and individuals improve
their neighborhoods by planting trees. Applications are accepted year-round.
Application Elements:
1. Submissions deadlines are June 15 and November 30.
· Applications received June 15 are reviewed by June 30.
· Applications received November 30 are reviewed by December 15.
2. Eligible planting sites* include private yards, apartment complexes, parks, schools,
churches, and other spaces within the District of Columbia only.
3. Trees cannot be planted as replacement trees required by a Special Tree Permit under the
Urban Forest Preservation Act.
4. Applications must specify the planting of 10 trees minimum. Large to medium sized shade
trees are encouraged and will be given preference in the selection process.
5. Trees, loaned tools, technical and other assistance are provided; there are no cash awards.
6. Applicants must obtain permission of all property owners where trees will be planted.
7. At least two volunteers from the neighborhood are required to water and care for each tree.
These volunteers must be identified and sign a pledge of support as part of the application.

Application Approval and Follow-Up:
1. Successful applicants will be assigned to either a spring or fall planting date.
2. Upon acceptance, Casey Trees will assign a Lead Citizen Forester(s) as technical
advisor(s) to help applicants develop a planting plan and maintenance schedule.
3. Casey Trees staff and the Lead Citizen Forester will coordinate with the applicant to
plant the trees on an assigned date.

7. Statement of Intent:
I accept responsibility for organizing this planting project and recruiting sufficient numbers of volunteers.
I accept responsibility for the trees donated by Casey Trees and commit to the care of the trees, which
includes: watering, mulching, and monitoring during the establishment period of two years. This may
include reporting on the health/survival of the tree as requested by Casey Trees staff. I further
understand Casey Trees reserves the right to change species and adjust tree placement in our planting
design if necessary (i.e., Right Tree, Right Place, Right Reason). I certify that these trees are not being
planted to serve as required mitigation for removal of a Special Tree under the Urban Forest
Preservation Act.
