Applications are invited for the position of Senior Grounds Officer in the Gardening Section of
Facilities and Services.
The successful applicant will be required to support and facilitate the successful operation of the
Gardening Section by monitoring the planting areas of campus; managing the material and
equipment resources and controlling and directing the operations of the production nursery.

Responsible to: Manager, Gardens and Grounds
PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Senior Grounds Officer is part of a team that supports and facilitates the successful operation of the Gardening
Section.
Position Dimension & Relationships:
The occupant of this position will work closely with the Grounds Manager and the Assistant Grounds Manager
managing the staff, materials and equipment resources. The occupant will also provide technical and administrative
support to the Section.
Role Statement:
1. Monitor the planting areas of the campus and formulate an autumn and spring planting schedule in
consultation with the Assistant Grounds Manager.
2. Manage the material and equipment resources of the Garden and Grounds section and monitor the
recurrent budget in consultation with the Assistant Grounds Manager.
3. Control and direct the operations of the production nursery.
4. Forecast, monitor and record all plant protection activity on the campus to ensure the efficient control of
plant pathogens and weeds.
5. Arrange the collection and manage all data (recycling, production and vandalism) associated with the
activities of the section and ensure the data is maintained on a regular basis.
6. Promote the landscape of the campus by formulating and conducting tours of the site for interested parties
as required.
7. Maintain all staff records and monitor the development of subordinate staff or apprentices within the
Gardens and Grounds Section.
8. Other duties as required consistent with the classification of the position.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
A. Qualifications
1. Degree in Horticulture with relevant experience or extensive experience in administrative field or an
equivalent combination of extensive relevant experience and education/training.
2. Holder of a current driving licence.
B. Experience
1. Extensive experience in directing and supervising ground maintenance, arboriculture staff and contractors
2. Good level of written and oral communication skills, including report writing.
3. Experience in managing resources, equipment and supplies for a large horticultural site
4. Demonstrated experience in managing a production nursery.
5. A good level of computing and data entry skills in a Microsoft environment.

1. Ability to work with and interact with a wide variety of people.
2. Ability to carry out the duties with the minimum of direction
