Community Connections is an initiative of Pittsburgh 250. Administered by The Sprout Fund, the
program will provide grants to neighborhoods, communities, civic organizations and individuals
throughout the 14-county region of Southwestern Pennsylvania to propose exciting and meaningful
projects and activities that they can undertake to join in the celebration of the region's 250th
anniversary.

Mission
Invest in community-based projects that encourage civic engagement throughout Southwestern
Pennsylvania and commemorate the region's 250th anniversary through service and projects that
provide lasting value to communities and the region as a whole.

Goals
   ·    Encourage civic engagement
   ·    Fund innovation at the grassroots level
   ·    Foster thoughtful and informed community decision-making
   ·    Create a "collective consciousness" about the 250th anniversary

Structure
Projects support the broad theme of "Pride and Progress" and are divided into three classes:
   ·    Regional ­ Large-scale community engagement focused on lasting value and affecting
        large populations or distinct groups. Grants up to $50,000.
   ·    Grassroots ­ Small-scale community initiatives focused on innovation and affecting a
        single community or county. Grants up to $5,000.
   ·    Affiliated ­ Share the mission and vision of Community Connections. Do not require
        monetary support.

Application Details
The application is available online at www.pittsburgh250.org/communityconnections and is open to
individuals and organizations throughout the 14-county Southwestern Pennsylvania region.
The deadline to apply is September 14, 2007.

The Sprout Fund
The Sprout Fund, a project of The Tides Center (PA), is a nonprofit organization supporting
innovative ideas and grassroots community projects that are catalyzing change in Pittsburgh. The
Sprout Fund is one of Southwestern Pennsylvania's leading agencies on issues related to civic
engagement, talent attraction and retention, public art, and catalytic small-scale funding.
