Fluendo announces cross-platform media center solution for GNU/Linux and Windows
Monday July 24th, 2006 - Barcelona, Spain
Fluendo, leader in GNU/Linux and Unix multimedia solutions, is expanding its offerings with the
Elisa Media Center solution. Elisa will be a full-featured Media Center solution targeted at both
desktop and embedded systems.
As home multimedia grows in popularity, many people are looking for solutions that tie their home
entertainment systems together. The Elisa Media Center is such a solution, incorporating functionality
such as music and video playback, support for playing DVDs, Internet radio stations, and DVB (Digital
Video Broadcast), viewing photos, video recording, and home networking using protocols such as
UPnP and DAAP.
Targeted to be used on Home Theater PC machines and set-top boxes, Elisa provides a visually
appealing and user-friendly solution. Elisa's extensive support for theming means that it can be
easily adjusted to provide branding for embedded system vendors and network operators. Due to
its portable design, Elisa runs both on Unix systems and Windows and can easily be ported to run on
other operating systems.
"Looking at the marketplace we found that the solutions available for set-top boxes were either too
limited in functionality or too hardware specific. With Elisa we aim to provide hardware integrators
the tools they need to excel with their products. The media center will be at the center of tomorrow's
living room and Elisa will be the engine that drives it all.", Fluendo co-founder Pascal Pegaz.
"With Elisa we are trying both to give consumers the power and flexibility they crave, and at the same
time ensure that hardware vendors get the branding and component based structure they need to build
their products. We want to make sure that when consumers power on their set-top boxes and media
center solutions they get an instant feeling of quality, power and ease of use.", Elisa Project Manager
Lionel Martin.
Set-top box makers and system integrators interested in setting their products apart should contact
Fluendo to discuss collaboration and partnering opportunities.
