How is this Calculated?
LivClean's Carbon Calculator is designed for Canadian, US and International customers. Data and
emissions factors were obtained from Environment Canada, Natural Resources Canada, the Canadian GHG
Registries provided by the Canadian Standards Association, Transportation Canada, The International
Energy Association and DEFRA.
· Home Calculator:
The home calculator estimates your GHG emissions based on your home's total annual energy
consumption (electricity, natural gas, fuel oil and propane). Your total annual energy consumption
is then multiplied by the appropriate emission factors (as provided by Natural Resources Canada,
the International Energy Association and the Canadian GHG registries) to calculate your GHG
emissions in tonnes of CO2 equivalents per year. In the case of electricity usage, emission factors
vary depending on the power generation methods of your state, province or country.
If you do not know your home's actual energy consumption, the calculator estimates your
emissions based on average fuel consumptions for common home sizes.
The emission factors involved are:
Electricity: Electricity emission factors are available per country, US state and Canadian Province

· Car Calculator:
The car calculator estimates your GHG emissions based on your car's total annual fuel
consumption. This is calculated using your car's fuel efficiency and the distance you travel per
year. Your total fuel consumption is then multiplied by the appropriate emission factors (as
provided by transportation Canada and Natural Resources Canada), to calculate your GHG
emissions in tonnes of CO2 equivalents per year.
If you do not know the year, make and model of your vehicle, the calculator estimates your
emissions based on average fuel efficiencies for various vehicle sizes.
The emission factors involved are:
Gasoline: 0.00236 tonnes/litre
Diesel: 0.0027 tonnes/litre

· Flight calculator:
The flight calculator estimates your GHG emissions based on your flight distance. It will calculate
the distance between your departure and arrival location. Your total flight distance is then
multiplied by the appropriate emission factors (as provided by DEFRA), to calculate your GHG
emissions in tonnes of CO2 equivalents per flight. Flight emission factors vary for long haul,
medium haul or short haul flights.
If you do not know the exact departure and arrival locations of your flight the calculator estimates
your emissions based on the predicted distance or duration of your flight.
