`ICC East Asia - Pacific announces Development Program award winners for 2007'
The ICC East Asia - Pacific Region has today announced the Regional Development Program
Awards for 2007.
The Vanuatu Cricket Association have won the coveted award for "Best Overall Cricket
Development Program", outlining their achievements in ongoing improvement in developing junior
and women's cricket and their willingness to involve the disabled in cricket programs. Vanuatu
also took out "Photo of the Year", capturing the joy of a young disabled woman playing cricket for
the first time.
Due to their continued outstanding development, Indonesia was awarded both the "Best Junior
Cricket Initiative Award" and the "Best Cricket Promotion and Marketing Award". This was due
recognition for several of their initiatives including combining drinking milk, the sport of cricket and
environmental awareness amongst Junior cricket development.
Japan Cricket Association's (JCA) Kenichiro Matsumura has won the Lifetime Service Award for
his tireless and ongoing efforts in developing cricket throughout Japan. His achievements include
establishing the JCA as an NPO legal entity, and then was the first President of the JCA
subsequent to this. Kenichiro still delivers cricket clinics and coaching courses, and is actively
involved in running junior cricket competitions in Fuji. In addition, Japan also won the award for
"Best Women's Cricket Initiative" for the team's tour of Shanghai, participating in the Coca-Cola
Shanghai International Cricket Sixes in September 2007.
Cheryl Amini from Papua New Guinea has won the "Volunteer of the Year" award due to her
outstanding commitment to the PNG Cricket Board and the Port Moresby Cricket Association. In
addition to this, Cheryl is Team Manager for the PNG National Under 19 Team, and was
appointed Team Manager for the ICC East Asia Pacific Team at the Australian Country Cricket
Championships.
Samoa International Cricket Association (SICA) has won the "Spirit of Cricket Initiative" for the
"Run Out AIDS" promotion held in December 2007. While the day was dedicated to HIV/AIDS
awareness, SICA also had community youth groups participate in games of rapid fire cricket,
diamond cricket and HIV/AIDS information sessions.
The EAP award winners will now join winners from the four other International Development
Program Regions at the ICC Global Awards, with winners to be announced on 13th March 2008.
The ICC Development Program Awards were established to recognize exceptional performance
and service to the game of cricket in all Associate and Affiliate member countries, and aims to
recognize these contributions among all levels of cricket development.
