INVESTMENT FRAUD BINGO
Introductory Activity to complement Lesson 3: Avoiding Frauds and Scams in Fair Play.

This game will introduce students to types of frauds, red flags, do's/don'ts when investing, and
some investing facts. You will need:

   - Transparency of Bingo Categories (attached)

1. Ask students to define fraud/scam

      Definition:
Fraud: a) intentional perversion of truth in order to induce another to part with
something of value (usually money) or to surrender a legal right; b) an act of deceiving
      or misrepresenting
Scam: a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation

2. Use transparency and point the various categories of information that will be found on
      the FRAUD cards.

3. Rules of the game:
      - Follows the same rules used to play Bingo
      - Teacher/student calls out letter and accompanying text on master list
      - Student checks/highlights matching box on FRAUD card
      - The first student with a row that spells FRAUD reads what is in each of their boxes and
identifies the category (see transparency) that it matches
      - If the student correctly identifies the categories, he/she wins

4. Play the game
      - Distribute cards to students (one/two students per card)
      - Students checks off/highlights the letter and text that matches the one called out by the
      teacher/student
      - Winner has a row of boxes which spells FRAUD and correctly identifies the categories

5. Review the information in the winning row. (Use master list for categories.)

6. Additional topics for discussion
      - Impact (financial, emotional) of investment scam/fraud on victim, family and friends.
      - Other types of scams/frauds? EG: mortgage fraud, contest fraud
