III. RECRUITMENT INITIATIVES
TYPE OF RECRUITMENT INITIATIVE BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY
1 Internship Programs We offer one-semester student internships, for
credit, in News, Weather, Sports, Promotions,
Community Relations and Sales. Interns gain first-
hand experience in a professional broadcast
organization and develop the skills needed to
obtain employment in the broadcast industry.
Selection is based on an application, coursework,
experience and references. During the reporting
period, 20 students served as interns. They
represented both local universities and out of state
universities, including: University of Colorado,
University of Denver, University of Northern
Colorado, Metropolitan State University, and
Colorado State University.
We offer a paid internship in partnership with the
University of Colorado. Selection is based on an
application, coursework, experience and
references. This internship offers a similar
experience to the unpaid internship program, but
provides a mentoring component. Participants gain
a broader experience in how the station operates.
During the reporting period, one student, a
minority, was awarded the paid internship.
2 Staff Training Programs-Establish training The KUSA/KTVD "Management Certificate
programs designed to enable station personnel to Program" is a 12-month management-training

7 Scholarship Programs As part of our commitment to grow the next

the media industry to increase access to permanent
job opportunities for minority students. The
Foundation's program is unlike other intern
programs in that students work for a partner
company during summers and school breaks from
the end of their junior year in high school until they
graduate from college. During that five-year
period, students learn many aspects of corporate
operations and develop company-specific skills.
Corporations guide and develop minority students
with the option of permanent placement upon
completion of their college degree. Students in the
program receive an hourly wage, as well as
matching compensation to help pay for college

8 Other Station Efforts The KUSA Community Relations Department
conducts weekly tours of the station to inform the
