Hey Batta Batta Swing:
Swing for the fences and join other Negro League Researchers, historians, former
players, students, fans and anyone interested in learning more about black baseball.
You are invited to join us for the 11th Annual Jerry Malloy Negro League
Conference in Willowbrook, Illinois from July 25-27, 2008, and share in this wonderful
history of black baseball. There will be scholarly and academic presentations by leading
researchers from around the country on a variety of topics related to the East-West All
Star game and beyond. In addition we will be attending a minor league baseball game
with teams wearing the jerseys of the Kansas City Monarchs and the Chicago
American Giants. There will be player panels and opportunities to interact and talk with
former Negro Leaguers. Vendors are present selling books and other materials related to
black baseball and baseball in general. A silent and live auction will be held during the
event with items from the players, from some major league teams and other baseball
memorabilia. For example, one of the items for auction is a signed baseball by Ernie
Banks. All proceeds go to help pay to bring the players to the conference. For those
who like to test their knowledge there is a trivia contest and great prizes.
In addition to all the planned activities there will be time to meet and talk with
other researchers, to legendary players and to just enjoy baseball. For educators
interested in teaching material there will be workshops on Thursday the 24th designed
specifically for that purpose.
We look forward to seeing you talking a little baseball with you in July. Batter Up!
