CIRES/NSIDC PROFESSIONAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT
The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), http://nsidc.org , at the Cooperative Institute for Research in
Environmental Sciences (CIRES) in Boulder, serves as a national information and referral center in support of snow and
ice research. Our mission is to make fundamental contributions to cryospheric science and excel in managing data and
disseminating information in order to advance understanding of the Earth system.
NSIDC archives digital and analog snow and ice data. We maintain information about snow cover and avalanches, glaciers
and ice sheets, floating ice, ground ice and permafrost, atmospheric ice, paleoglaciology and ice cores. We create and
distribute data products on CD-ROM and other media.
NSIDC is one of eight Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) participating in the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration's (NASA's) Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS). Many satellite image and
satellite derived products are contained within the aegis of the DAAC.
