Lawyers Speak out for Judge Conrad
The Fourth Circuit has waited long enough
Washington, DC: A well-qualified and impartial judiciary is essential to our system of justice.
Lawyers who practice in that system clearly have a keen interest in our courts. The Republican
National Lawyers Association (RNLA) is made up of over 3,000 lawyers and law students
nationwide and enthusiastically supports Chief Judge Robert J. Conrad, Jr.'s nomination to the
Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
RNLA Vice-Chair for Judicial Affairs Kristi Remington, who worked on Judge Conrad's
nomination to the United States District Court while serving as deputy assistant attorney general
in the Office of Legal Policy at the U.S. Department of Justice, issued the following remarks:
Chief Judge Conrad has been rated "Unanimously Well-Qualified" by the
American Bar Association (ABA), its highest possible rating.
His distinguished home state senators from North Carolina support him fully and
have returned their blue slips. Moreover, he was previously confirmed by the
Senate to the positions of U.S. Attorney and U.S. District Court Judge by
unanimous consent.
The Fourth Circuit seat to which Chief Judge Conrad has been nominated is
deemed a judicial emergency by the non-partisan Administrative Office of the
U.S. Courts.
He has met all the criteria set forth by the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee
for movement to confirmation. The 338 day delay in his confirmation to the
Fourth Circuit harms our justice system and benefits no one.
RNLA respectfully asks the Senate to give Chief Judge Conrad the up-or-down
vote he unquestionably deserves and afford the citizens of the Fourth Circuit the
just and speedy determination of their rights that they unquestionably deserve.
The RNLA also has established a National Judicial Advocacy Panel comprised of
lawyers who are available for media interviews throughout the country. More
information on this panel, including biographies and contact details, can be found at
http://www.rnla.org/Speakers.asp or visit www.rnla.org for general information on the
RNLA.
