STAIN REMOVAL CHEAT SHEET
Ballpoint Ink: Apply glycerin (a thick solvent, available at drug stores) to the stain, then spot-treat
with a gentle detergent and very little water. Rub gently until suds form, then rinse.

Coffee: Apply a vinegar solution (one part vinegar, two parts water) to stain with an eyedropper,
then rinse. If the coffee had milk or sugar in it, follow vinegar treatment by applying an enzyme
detergent and water to the stain: let sit for ten minutes. Finish with a regular wash cycle.

Lipstick: Apply an oil solvent and let dry, then remove residue. Treat with a gentle liquid soap and
very little water, rubbing until suds form, then rinse. For white clothes, use an eyedropper to apply
diluted ammonia and bleach any remaining color. Rinse with cool water.

Mud: Let dry, then brush off as much dirt as possible. Apply a gentle detergent to the stain and rub
with water until suds form, then rinse. For whites, bleach any remaining stain with a vinegar solu-
tion (one part white vinegar and one part water).

Red Wine: Apply salt to the stain and stretch fabric over a bowl. From twelve inches above the
bowl, carefully pour boiling water over the stain. Follow treatment with a regular wash cycle.
