                                   TABLE OF PERMITTED DUTIES (Rev . 3//20/06)

Following is a table of duties which auxiliaries are allowed to perf orm in Calif ornia. If a duty is not listed,
auxiliaries are NOT allowed to perf orm the duty . Under each category of auxiliary is one of the f ollowing
notations: "N", "D", "C" or "G".

 "N" = means that the auxiliary is NOT permitted to perf orm the duty .

 "D" = means that the auxiliary may perf orm the duty under the Direct superv ision of a dentist, which
means superv ision of dental procedures based on instructions giv en by a licensed dentist who must be
phy sically present in the treatment f acility during the perf ormance of those procedures. The duty must
be perf ormed pursuant to the order, control and f ull prof essional responsibility of the superv ising dentist.
Such procedures must be checked and approv ed by the superv ising dentist prior to dismissal of the
patient f rom the of f ice of said dentist.

"C" = means that the auxiliary may perf orm the duty under the superv ision of a dentist or a Registered
Dental Hy gienist in certain public health clinics as specif ied in Business and Prof essions Code Section
1777 ef f ectiv e January 1, 2005.

"G" = means that the auxiliary can perf orm the duty under the General superv ision of a dentist, which
means based on instructions giv en by a licensed dentist, but not requiring the phy sical presence of the
superv ising dentist during the perf ormance of those procedures.

Note: An RDHAP may perf orm any prev entiv e or therapeutic duty that an RDH is allowed to perf orm
under general superv ision, prov ided that a prescription f or hy giene serv ices has been issued by a
dentist or phy sician.

*Those duties marked by an asterisk * may be perf ormed by an RDH without superv ision if they are
employ ed in a public health program created by f ederal, state, or local law or administered by a f ederal,
state, county or local gov ernmental entity .
