Wilbur's Lookout
A supermarket grows in Belltown. This is
a humongous turning point for our neigh-
borhood.
Some of our smaller grocery stores have,
in the past, expanded, but not enough.
A supermarket was proposed in the late
`80s for Second Avenue and Pike Street, only
to be blocked by the Pike Place Market.
But nothing will stop "2200 Westlake,"
because PAUL ALLEN IS BEHIND IT. The
new store will be located at the intersections
of Blanchard, Westlake and Denny, across
the street from Cornish School of the Arts.
Construction is alreadyunder way, and the
old buildings on the site have been demol-
ished. Being one who chooses not to have a
car, it will be great to do all my shopping on
this side of Denny! Along with the planned
Monorail station on Bell Street, this is gonna
be one helluva walkable, sophisticated joint!
