Feel the burn as you flex your creative muscles. This fun class will involve constructive writing exercises designed to fine tune basic,
but crucial, elements of your work. Take your characterization, narrative, dialogue, and plot to the next level. Work your five senses,
paint pictures with words, master point of view, and bring the abstract into focus. Develop good writing habits to stay focused and

and learn how to market your work! With thousands of manuscripts crossing the desks of editors and agents, competition to get
published is intense; mastering the business side of writing often can mean the difference between rejection and acceptance. In this
course, a successful published author will provide "insider tips" about the writing business. Topics include preparing a book synopsis
or proposal; locating markets; the roles of editors and agents; negotiating payments, and more. She also will provide valuable
advice on generating ideas, knowing when a manuscript is finished, editing, and developing a writer's schedule. If you are serious

Join us for this wondrous series focusing on the topic, Demons, Golems and Dybbuks: Monsters of the Jewish Imagination with
Melissa Weininger, University of Chicago doctoral student in Hebrew and Yiddish literature and Nextbook Salon Series presenter.
We will explore five tales, which are as much about bodies the enchanting, the ailing, and the monstrous as about spirits, leaving
the reader wondering: Which is stranger, the supernatural or our own?
Class sessions are comprised of readings, lectures, and group discussions. Students can borrow a copy of each book at the RHC
campus library. Advance registration is required.
